Mobile Bomb Drilling System
Training Ranges around the world are decommissioned when they are no longer needed to enable the land to be used for other purposes. The decomissioning process for areas that have seen the use of heavy munitions is a lengthy and expensive process.
When munitions are found, their filler must be determined. Along with live rounds, “blank” rounds can also be fired that contain cement or another inert filler. For obvious reasons, this must be determined before the disposal process can take place.
In order to find out the filler of an unmarked or weathered munition, the conventional method is to blow a hole in the casing using a small explosive charge. This is an expensive process, with a single blast costing hundreds of dollars due to licensing explosives storage and regulatory compliance. Golden West pioneered the design and production of a highly mobile remote bomb drill system that can penetrate the casing of a bomb in order to identify it’s contents.
This system can provide huge cost savings for range clearance operations. It features the latest technology in remote control, to enable operators to see and record the drilling in progress and analyse the results from afar.
