Clearing the Path to Peace, & Enhances Global Security

For twenty-seven years, the Golden West Humanitarian Foundation (GWHF) has been at the forefront of global security, working alongside the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Defense, and key international allies to tackle the world’s most complex humanitarian mine action (HMA) challenges. As a trusted partner in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD), physical security, and munitions stockpile management (PSSM), our expertise directly supports global stability while reducing risks to civilian populations.

Building Safer Communities Through Expertise & Innovation

Since our founding in 1998, GWHF has specialized in advanced mine action training and technology development. Our team, composed of highly experienced combat veterans and international EOD experts, has pioneered programs that mitigate the dangers of explosive remnants of war (ERW). Through strategic training, disposal, and stockpile security initiatives, we have established long-term partnerships that align with U.S. foreign policy and humanitarian goals.

Cambodia: Sustainable Solutions in Demining

In 2004, GWHF launched a groundbreaking project in Cambodia, supporting the Humanitarian Demining Research and Development program (U.S. HDR&D) and the Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC). Our own Explosive Harvesting Program transformed surplus munitions into safe, controlled demolition charges; a game-changer for demining efforts. To date, we have produced nearly 650,000 individual explosive charges, meeting 100% of the explosive needs for demining organizations in the region. This U.S. Department of State’s PM/WRA-funded initiative continues to enhance regional stability and economic recovery.

Vietnam: Building Enduring Capacity

From 2005 to 2019, GWHF worked with Vietnamese organizations, NGOs, and the U.S. government to advance EOD training and mobile detection technologies. Initially partnering with the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund and Project RENEW a Vietnamese NGO, we developed state-of-the-art detection systems to improve landmine clearance. As the project evolved, we transitioned to training national-level EOD teams, empowering BOMICO, BOMICEN, VNMAC, and Provincial Military Command EOD units to conduct independent and safe ordnance disposal. By strengthening Vietnam’s self-sufficiency in UXO clearance, we have contributed to the country’s long-term security and economic resilience.

Strengthening Partnerships in the Pacific

GWHF has played a pivotal role in enhancing security across the Pacific, building trusted relationships with U.S. allies and local governments:

  • Solomon Islands – Trained the Royal Solomon Islands Police EOD Team for eight years, improving national explosive disposal capabilities.
  • Fiji – Conducted EOD training for the Fijian Armed Forces in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State’s PM/WRA.
  • Marshall Islands & Micronesia – Currently leading projects to clear WWII-era ERW, ensuring safer communities and maritime environments.
  • S. Department of State’s Quick Reaction Force (QRF) – Since 2013, we have operated in 30 countries, including Papua New Guinea, Kiribati, Palau, Yap, and Tuvalu, responding to UXO crises and delivering life-saving solutions.

A Legacy of Impact & Diplomatic Representation

Our Pacific programs have resulted in the removal and safe destruction of tons of WWII and Indochina War legacy munitions, directly improving the safety and security of communities affected by unexploded ordnance from past conflicts. Beyond technical expertise, GWHF serves as an ambassador for U.S. humanitarian efforts, demonstrating American commitment to peace and stability in some of the world’s most remote regions.

With a track record of success, a network of global partnerships, and an unwavering commitment to humanitarian mine action, GWHF will continue to clear the path to peace, one mission at a time.
