Larry Cousins

Larry Cousins retired as a Colonel from the United States Army after serving for 29 years. He was assigned to the Logistics branch as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Officer

 

His career has taken him across the globe, with multiple tours to Korea, a tour to Spain, and deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait. As a young company commander in Iraq, Larry led 12 EOD teams supporting the 1st Armored Division in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He later served in Afghanistan as the EOD Task Force Operations Officer for Regional Command South, in Kandahar, supporting the 10th Mountain Division. His final deployment saw him in Kuwait, serving as Deputy to Task Force Atlas, the Counter-IED task force focused on defeating ISIS in Mosul, Iraq, and Raqqa, Syria.

 

Larry has held several key leadership positions within the U.S. Army, including commanding the 789th Ordnance Company (EOD) at Fort Benning, Georgia (now Fort Moore), serving as Military Science II Instructor and Operations Officer at North Georgia College and State University, Support Operations Officer for the 6th Ordnance Battalion at Camp Carrol, Korea, commanding the 84th Ordnance Battalion (EOD) at Fort Riley Kansas, and as the Deputy Commander for the 71st Ordnance Group (EOD) at Fort Carson, Colorado.

 

At the strategic level, Larry was assigned to the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) under ASD SO/LIC (Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict) in the Stability and Humanitarian Affairs branch. There, he served as the Department of Defense Chief of Humanitarian Mine Action and EOD Policy. His also served as the Deputy Director of the NATO Counter-IED Center of Excellence in Madrid, Spain. His final assignment was as the U.S. Army Military representative to the Depart of Defense Explosives Safety Board (DDESB).
