Rommel Meza – Rest In Peace.
With profound sadness, we share the news of the unexpected passing on Sunday, 17 December, of our friend and Golden West CEO, Rommel Meza.
Rommel’s contributions to Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Army HMA and NGO communities are immeasurable.
He served with distinction for 29 years in the U.S. Navy, including deployments as an EOD Technician in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he honed his skills and forged deep bonds with his brothers and sisters in arms from other service components and other nations. After retirement, he leveraged his expertise to strengthen the Army EOD community through strategic planning and innovation.
Rommel’s passion for humanitarian work led him to the Humanitarian Demining Training Center (HDTC), where he played a critical role in training personnel for life-saving missions and witnessed the transformative power of HMA for affected communities. It was there that he met and admired the dedication of our Golden West team, ultimately positioning him to lead our organization.
The Meza family deserves privacy during this difficult time. The family will let us know of any plans for future public events or memorials and we will pass that along.
Please join Golden West in honoring his memory by continuing his fight for a world free from the threat of unexploded ordnance. We invite you to share your memories and stories of Rommel in the comments below. His kindness, leadership, and unwavering commitment to making the world a safer place will be deeply missed. Rommel’s legacy lives on through the countless lives saved and communities rebuilt thanks to his dedication, leadership, and vision.
